EAHI offers its dementia care through Cedarhurst Dementia Care Home. Cedarhurst has been specially designed with a home-like environment for those individuals living with dementia and offers personalized attention to make life at Cedarhurst easy to feel at ‘home’.
Our Director of Care takes the time to custom-design an attentive, individualized care program for each resident, tailored to meet unique needs.
Approach to Care - Relational Dementia Care Model
Our care model, called “relational dementia care,” is based on the understanding that—for people living with dementia, as for all of us—our sense of ourselves comes alive through our bonds with each other. Care is more than meeting physical needs – Is about building meaningful connections that nurture the whole person.
It is in compassionate relationships and our ‘family-centred’ approach that we all grow and develop. Relational care takes the best of what we already do and makes it better.
Our vision is to maintain our small, intimate, home-like setting and create within it a loving, LIVING culture that leads the way into a new era of dementia care. Cedarhurst residents will not just live here; they will be loved. They will be themselves. Dance. Laugh. Cry. Feel joy and warmth. Sleep through dinner if they want. Talk and listen. Touch and be touched. Play. Bond. Have meaningful things to do. They will be safe. We will support them to evolve and grow, to live their lives fully and deeply – in a more engaged, safe and dignified way.
We also expect to see changes that are more quantifiable, such as better health outcomes among residents. This means decreased use of antipsychotic and antidepressant medication, decreased incidence of pressure ulcers, improved psychosocial outcomes, and increased satisfaction for residents and family. Residents will be more stimulated and more engaged, with a greater sense of purpose. They will feel joy, connection, faith, and love.
Families, too, will enjoy a greater sense of comfort and engagement.
